‘Kya Dekh Rahe Ho?’ at Saket
JAGORI and Blank Noise tied up for a street intervention- ‘Kya Dekh Rahe Ho ?’ on December 8, 2006.
The women in the group stood at the PVR Saket-Press Enclave traffic signal, wearing letters that spelt out ‘Kya Dekh Rahe Ho’ (What are you looking at?). JAGORI and BlankNoise volunteers distributed pamphlets on the issue to by-standers as well as people who stopped at the traffic signal.
Participant Reactions:
Seema says:
It was a great experience to be part of this intervention. Though was done in silent mode yet it turned out to be a very powerful strategy to speak up against street sexual harassment. The positive responses from passers-by also showed their engagement on the issue.
Mahavir says:
I was distributing fliers about the campaign while the women in the group stood at the signal wearing the letters Kya Dekh Rahe Ho. Usually one has to push by-standers to take fliers but in this case by-standers were themselves asking me for the flier and wanted to know more about the campaign. It was great.
Shruti says:
It was empowering to confront men in a public space, as part of a group. The intervention was very effective in terms of generating curiosity and awareness around the issue. We MUST do it in other places around the city.
